Turbocharged Ferrari California T Revealed

Meet the latest additional to the Ferrari stable. The brand new Ferrari California T. A 2015 model Ferrari has gone to the dark side and added a turbo to their awesome V8. With 552 horsepower the 3.8-liter twin-turbo is something we haven't seen from Ferrari since the F40 came out in 1987.

Ferrari California T Premiere

Ferrari has finally released their first turbocharged car since the venerable Ferrari F40. The entry level Ferrari California has had a makeover and continues to be the most affordable model in its lineup. The California now carries the "T" insignia to showcase the new turbocharged V8 engine. The all new turbocharged V8 is 3.9 liters,  has direct-injection V8 and is based on the force-fed unit introduced on the recent Maserati range. Of course Ferrari immediately pointed out that the engine has been reworked featuring a slightly larger displacement (Ferrari: 3,855cc vs Maserati: 3,799cc) and more power at 560PS (552hp) at 7,500 rpm and 755Nm (557 lb-ft) over the Trident's  530PS (523hp) at 6,500 rpm and 710Nm (524 lb-ft). That's a pretty massive jump over the naturally aspirated current California.

Performance is (as expected) pretty epic for a base model. The front-engine, rear-wheel drive model hits (62mph in 3.6 second, 0.2 seconds faster than the current model and top speed increases modestly from 195mph to 196mph.

The California T is an update of the current California. The retractable hard-top roof remains but the styling has been refined for the front and rear sections of the car, with a few updates to modernize it a little. The interior has also been updated and is refresh compared to the current California. Inside, Ferrari redesigned the dashboard that sports a new partially digital instrument panel, and a new center console with a 6.5 inch display for the infotainment system featuring both touch-screen and conventional controls

Other updates to the California T include a revised chassis with improved steering response, new springs and the latest-generation Magnaride dampers (which respond 50 per cent faster) for the suspension, plus the newest iteration of the brand's F1-Trac traction control system and an available CCM3 carbon-ceramic braking system that offers a 100 to 0 km/h (62mph – 0 ) braking distance of 34 meters (111.5 feet).
