If you were one of the bummed billionaires who missed the opportunity to own Ferrari's non-street-legal super-supercar, here's the next best thing: the Pagani Zonda R. At the heart of the Zonda R is a repurposed version of the AMG-sourced V-8 that powers the CLK GTR racer. It has 750 horsepower, features dry-sump lubrication and is mated to a six-speed sequential gearbox. Oh, and it sounds like a gatling gun and accelerates like a bullet.

As you already know, we already love the Pagani Zonda and Pagani Huayra here at Rev to the Limit so we couldn't help but write a summary and find some awesome videos and pictures of the Pagani Zonda R, the ultimate in Zonda lineage.
The Pagani Zonda R makes doesn't pretend to be a racing only special, an attempt by Mr Pagani to get into some series. Instead, Mr Pagani decided to simply build the craziest version he could of the already epic Pagani Zonda. The priority for Pagani was on eliminating weight and incorporating aerodynamic and powertrain-related technologies that will help it go even faster than the street-legal Zonda F.
The central monocoque in carbon-titanium, more rigid and lighter than ever, encases a Mercedes-Benz AMG V12 high-performance racing engine as if it were a precious gem. This four wheel prodigy is able to deliver 750 HP and produce a torque of 710 Nm. This engine is bolted directly to the central monocoque. A direct throttle actuation via mechanical cable ensures immediate throttle response, thus achieving improved propulsor performance in terms of reactivity.
20 milliseconds is the time needed by the Zonda R to perform gearshifts, thanks to a transversal sequential gearbox in magnesium, enhanced by the Xtrac transmission technolgy, Automac Engineering automation and the shift paddles located behind the steering wheel.
As expected, cost was no object which is why the Zonda R costs a Bugatti Veyron-like $1.8 million for the lucky 15 owners who get to buy one.

The Zonda R engine is an update of the one first seen in the late-’90s Mercedes-Benz CLK GTR. It is dry-sumped 5.9L V12 that produces a barely believable 739bhp at 7500rpm. In true Zonda tradition the noise at full chat is meant to be something else, helped by the exhaust having nothing in the way of silencers between cylinders and tailpipes.
The massive power is delivered to the road via a six-speed Xtrac automated sequential gearbox, capable of swapping gears in a mere 20 milliseconds. Combine all this firepower with an all-up weight of about 2,400 pounds and you can imagine performance nothing short of ballistic.
The Zonda R has a lightweight carbon fibre high performance intake system, racing multiple disc centered clutch and Formula One-style exhaust system, hydroformed in Inconel 625 and ceramic coated for optimal heat dissipation, have been added. The engine is bolted directly to the chassis and also has direct throttle actuation via mechanical cable to ensure immediate throttle response.
The Xtrac Magnesium cased dog ring gearbox combined with tha Automac Engineering AMT system performs gearshifts in 20ms, triggered by the drivers input on the paddles behind the steering wheel. We can see that many of you have read this far and have concluded that you're going to buy a Zonda R. It is just the car you have been searching for. This is the part where we break the bad news, the actual price of the Zonda R. We'd recommend sitting down if you aren't already.
The price of the Zonda R was £2.2 million plus taxes. I can only imagine the look on people's faces when Pagani unveiled the Zonda R to clients and family members during Vanishing Point 2013.
WHAT'S THE ZONDA R LIKE TO DRIVE
Make no mistake, the Zonda R is a very special car, a true race car that is more Group C car than just about anything else you can buy. It is far more extreme than most expect and anybody who believes this is something that belongs on public roads is truly insane. The result is nothing short of absolutely perfection, a ballistic track weapon that rearranges your perceptions of what a car can do.
When compared to a standard Zonda , the new version features an improved aerodynamic package, a new rear wing with a Drag Reduction System and, of course, some extra power under the hood. But to call this a wilder version of the regular Zonda does not accurately describe the way it takes things to the next level.
High performance combines with driving simplicity and manoeuvrability, thanks to a 12-way Bosch Motorsport traction control and ABS system which allows the driver to fully adjust the settings while driving the Zonda R. At the pits, the driver will be able to find a suitable setup thanks to a fully adjustable suspension and wing configuration.
0-100 in less than 2.7 seconds and a power-to-weight ratio of 701 hp-per-ton combined with Pirelli Pzero tyres can catapult the driver from 0 to 100 km/h in less than 2,7 seconds, while the Brembo carbon ceramic brakes ensure the car comes to a standstill even quicker.
A dry weight of 1.070 kg is achieved through the AvionAl suspension components, Aspa machined structural ErgAl parts holding the engine and the gearbox, and Poggipolini Titanium screws. Moreover, aerodynamic setups allows for a high downforce setting of up to 1.500kg and a 350kmh top speed setting. The effectiveness of the rear is matched by the complex new front bonnet, as well as the closed flat underbody and rear diffusor.
