1st part of a 3 part series called HYPER 5, where we compare all these beasts and put them to the test! Holy shit. Multi-time Champion Patrick Long, Porsche Works Driver, utilizes all the systems of the new plug-in hybrid Porsche 918 Spyder for a hot lap of the new Circuit of the Americas in Austin Texas. Watch as the Porsche 918 exits pit lane under all-electric mode, accelerates under sport hybrid mode, and uses the hot-lap button on the back straight at 170mph. *Combined fuel consumption in accordance with EU 5: 3.1-3.0 l/100 km; CO2 emissions; CO2 emissions: 72-70 g/km. Electricity consumption 12.7 kWh/100 km Drop what you're doing and watch this video. Every petrol head we know is already jealous of Chris Harris and now it is official, he has the best job in the world. Watch today's video of the Porsche 918 Spyder. The Porsche 918 is the fastest road car to ever go around the Nurburgring and Porsche's vision of the future of the motorcar. It is an epic car. As always, Chris Harris has gotten his hands all over it, and to say that it impressed him is an understatement. He loves it. In true Chris Harris fashion he has tried his hardest to get the Porsche 918 Spyder sideways! The 918 Spyder has 4.6-litre V8 engine producing 608 bhp independently – the highest specific power of any naturally aspirated Porsche engine. In addition to the V8 are two electric motors mounted on each axle, basically taking the Porsche up to 880hp. The electric motors can either drive the wheels independently or work together with the engine to boost performance. A seven-speed Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK) controls power delivery to the rear wheels. If you like the 918 Spyder, check out our write up and our video and photo gallery. The 918 Spyder is a lightning-fast hybrid-powered slot car. The crazy fast techno marvel is a sign of our future. The Porsche 918 Spyder is the most complicated car Porsche has ever built. With a hybrid gasoline-electric powertrain has a race-bred 4.6-liter V8 accompanied by two electric motors drawing power from a liquid-cooled lithium-ion battery pack. It will mozy along in electric only mode and not harm the environment or you can put it in race mode, push the accelerator to the floor and have science-fiction levels of acceleration that blasts you to 200 mph in a screaming ball of fury. We absolutely love this car. |
