The F-type R, which has 54bhp more than the F-type V8 S roadster, launches to 62mph in just 4.0sec. And that’s not just thanks to the extra power, either. Stickier tyres, a reworked differential, a quicker eight-speed paddleshift gearbox and a 20kg weight saving against the soft-top all add up to that storming turn of speed.

The top speed is electronically limited, but 186mph is enough for most people, surely? The pop-up rear spoiler, which reduces high speed lift by 120kg, gives your speeding antics away at just 70mph, though. Meanwhile, 501 lb ft ensures an in-gear lunge from 50-75mph in 2.4sec.

Jaguar has finally unveiled the F-Type Coupe, with a 550-horsepower F-Type R as the flagship. Carbon ceramic brakes are an option, while a stiffer suspension, electronic differential and a torque vectoring system add to the mix. The F-Type R Coupe packs the same ridiculous 5.0-liter, 550-hp supercharged V8 that sees duty in the Jaguar XFR-S sedan. The high-performance "R" is priced from $99,000. It can go from zero to 60mph in just 4.0 sec and hit a top speed of 186 mph.

Also available are the V6 models, producing 340 and 380 horsepower respectively, and featuring all of the same equipment as the V6 convertibles. The base version utilizes a 3.0-liter supercharged V6 pushing out 335HP (340PS) for a 0-60mph (96km/h) sprint in a competitive 5.1 seconds and a top speed of 161mph (259km/h) and starts at $65,000. For $77,000 you can step in the "S" model that draws power from a tweaked version of the 3.0-liter supercharged V6 putting out 375HP (380PS). This version reaches 60mph (96km/h) in 4.8 seconds and tops out at 171mph (275km/h).

All three engines are paired to a ZF eight-speed automatic transmission with full manual sequential control that drives the rear wheels.

A couple of other things that caught our attention from Jaguar's press release include the availability of either aluminum or panoramic glass roof panels that are bonded into the main roof structure, with torsional rigidity remaining identical regardless of which roof is fitted to the car, and an optional Carbon Ceramic Matrix (CCM) braking system with 398/380mm (15.7/15-inch) discs front/rear that will be available after introduction.

Ok, so we love the way the Jag F-Type Coupe looks, but what's it like to drive. We will have to wait a while to experience that, but for now we get to enjoy this promo video. Based on the sound of that engine in this clip, I think it is safe to say that both our eyeballs and ears will have equal fun. It sounds absolutely bonkers. Turn up the volume.
